Tbt ain’t got no love for WV, and Jflow??

After our most successful summer ever, the Best Virginia Alumni team was forced to sit on the sidelines for the summer of 2026.

Last summer, we made it to the Final Four of the tournament, and we were looking forward to coming back and finishing business this summer in the TBT tournament.

Charleston, WV, has been a great host for us, nearly packing the Civic Center for our games, but I guess TBT had other plans.

After going back and forth with them, saying they wanted to come back to Charleston and then changing their minds a few times, they ultimately decided not to have us this season. They also changed the format of the tournament, so a lot of teams that are normally in it were not this year as well.

I was told that if we wanted to participate this year, we would have a $150K buy-in. As the GM of the team, I did not think that would be a good business decision. I’m sure we could have found a way to pony up that buy-in because we have the best fans and alumni on the planet, but I did not think it was worth it.

It was kind of a smack in the face from TBT, seeing as how we built a pretty good partnership over the past 5-6 years. But it is what it is.

A lot of people don’t understand what it takes to build the team and get the guys back together each summer. You have to pay for travel, hotels, pay the guys, raise money… it’s a lot.

I love to do it because it gets the bros together and we get to play in front of and be around the mountaineer fans again. Brings back the feeling I haven’t felt since 2011.

We normally scrimmage the current team to get us ready for the tournament, which helps bridge the gap between current players and past players. Coach Hodge and his staff did a really good job his first year by helping incorporate that, and I think it’s something that is really cool for everyone involved.

We’ll see what happens with TBT in the future. Regardless, we will be doing something in WV with the alumni.
